The 128th birthday of Allama Mohammad Iqbal, the great scholar, poet and thinker of Pakistan, will be celebrated on Wednesday. People from different walks of life will arrange various literary programmes to pay homage to the great poet philosopher.

In this connection, all the government offices, educational institutions and banks will remain closed on November 9. The national press will publish special supplements on the life of Allama Iqbal while electronic media will air programmes and dramas in this regard.

OUR SIALKOT CORRESPONDENT ADDS: Allama Iqbal's birth anniversary will also be celebrated with usual enthusiasm and zeal in Sialkot, Pasrur, Sambrial and Daska tehsils of Sialkot district. The Sialkot Tehsil Municipal Administration, literary organisations, and educational institutions, have finalised their colourful programmes in this regard.

A special function would be held at Iqbal Manzil (the birthplace of Allama Iqbal) in Sialkot.

Various social and cultural organisations and local colleges have arranged special functions for paying rich tributes to Allama Iqbal as well as to highlight the significance of his poetry.

The daylong programmes would be started with special prayers for the solidarity, unity and prosperity of the country and for the early liberation of occupied Kashmir in all mosques of Sialkot. Special prayers would also be offered for the early recovery and rehabilitation of quake victims while Fateha will be offered for the departed souls.
